Health Science

Combining science and medical technology with the human touch and compassion, the health sciences administer care to millions of people - from newborns to the critically ill.  The majority of establishments in this category are doctor's offices, dentists and other health practitioners.  Although hospitals only account for one percent of all health care establishments, they employ 35 percent of all workers.  Health care workers at all levels of training will continue to be in demand.  In fact, seven of the 20 fastest growing occupations are health care related, with the industry expected to produce 3 million new wage and salary jobs between 2006 and 2016 - more than any other industry.

Our mission:
Health Science prepares students for employment and/or continuing education opportunities in health care through technical instruction in the classroom, experiential education in the laboratory, work-based learning opportunities at clinical settings, and leadership and personal skills development by participating in student leadership organizations.

Jobs in the Health Science Career Cluster involve planning, managing, and providing diagnostic, therapeutic, supportive, and information and research services in health care.

Healthcare is the largest and fastest-growing industry because of: an aging population; new forms of information technology; the need for multi-skilled workers; the move toward preventative and primary care; the increase in outpatient surgery; a decrease in the number of health-care workers in rural and inner city areas; the increase in retirement of mature workers and movement into other professions.

Our vision: is to provide awareness and exploration experiences that motivate students to pursue a profession in health care..
